Hey everyone, I'm not really here.  I just post things every couple of months, but because of the spam and trojans that I've been getting when I log on here I don't check in very often.  If you need anything from me I am at Solitairemiles.com  and on facebook as Solitaire Miles.  Please contact me there.

Thanks!  :)

Hey!  I'm sorry I haven't been around much lately, but every time I log on I get a bunch of trojans here from the pop up ads.  So I have been busy at Flickr and on facebook.  If you want to keep up, please friend me here - www.facebook.com/solitairemile…

I've noticed that there's been some drama about me using Foxycherry's photographs, I manipulated them with her permission.  As far as I know since they are photos of her, she owns them and gave me permission to manipulate them.  If you have an issue with that, take it up with her.

On a happier note, I have recently lost 115 lbs, and I will be modeling for a vintage inspired pin up calendar shot by photographer Thomas Zamiar here in Chicago, and I will be posting pics as I get them.  They will be a combo of his original photography and my photomanipulation.  I am also performing regularly now in Chicago and New York City, and you can see/listen and read more at my webiste - solitairemiles.com/

I hope all is well with you and that you're having a great fall season!

Wow, it's been a loooooooong time since I've written a journal.  I've stayed away from dA because I kept getting trojans every time I came here.  Nasty ones too, but it seems a lot quieter now, and those annoying pop up ads are gone...

Anyhow, I hope you are all doing well, and if I don't get any more trojans, I will be staying awhile. :hug:

"This delightful set not only provesthat there is still plenty
of life to be found in swing tunes, but it features Solitaire
Miles at her very best,taking her place as one of the top
swing singers around today. " - Scott Yanow

"Listening to singer Solitaire Miles is like stepping
into a time machine and going back to a bygone era of
great female jazz singers. With a clear, clean voice and
keen sense of phrasing, Miles belongs to another period
in time. On her third album, Born to Be Blue, Miles has
assembled an exceptional crew of some of
Chicago's finest" - Brad Walseth JazzChicago.net

Through their sleazy cheap ad service, I got a nasty trojan from dA.  My husband, who is a server and security analyst at Accenture was horrified when I picked up a nasty trojan while checking my messages here on dA.  I will no longer be posting here, and I suggest you all beef up your security if you're going to keep up with dA as well.

I'm sorry to the contest winners, I would like to give you your prizes, please contact me through my website solitairemiles.com so I can do the artwork and give you the music that I promised.

Until dA cleans up it's service I won't be back.  I'm glad I didn't waste my money on another subscription!  This was a nasty trojan and it got through a ton of security that we had on our home server.

*INTRODUCTION TO LUPUS
(Information found at www.lupus.org)

Lupus is an autoimmune disease that can affect various parts of the body,
including the skin, joints, heart, lungs, blood, kidneys and brain.
Normally the body's immune system makes proteins called antibodies,
to protect the body against viruses, bacteria, and other foreign
materials. These foreign materials are called antigens.

In an autoimmune disorder like lupus, the immune system cannot tell the
difference between foreign substances and its own cells and tissues.
The immune system then makes antibodies directed against itself.
These antibodies - called "auto-antibodies" (auto meaning 'self' )
cause inflammation, pain and damage to various parts of the body.

Inflammation is considered the primary feature of lupus.
Inflammation, which in Latin means "set on fire," is characterized
by pain, heat, redness, swelling and loss of function, either on the inside
or on the outside of the body (or both).

For most people, lupus is a mild disease affecting only a few organs.
For others, it may cause serious and even life-threatening problems.
Although epidemiological data on lupus is limited, studies suggest
that more than 16,000 Americans develop lupus each year.

The Lupus Foundation of America (LFA) estimates between 1.5 - 2 million
Americans have a form of lupus, but the actual number may be higher.
More than 90 percent of people with lupus are women. Symptoms and
diagnosis occur most often when women are in their child-bearing
years, between the ages of 15 and 45.

In the United States, lupus is more common in African Americans,
Latinos, Asians, and Native Americans than in Caucasians.

SYMPTOMS

Although lupus can affect any part of the body, most people
experience symptoms in only a few organs. The most common of
symptoms with SLE are listed below. Occurrences of particular
symptoms happening are listed as percentages.

* Achy joints / arthralgia (95 percent)
* Fever of more than 100 degrees (90 percent)
* Arthritis / swollen joints (90 percent)
* Prolonged or extreme fatigue (81 percent)
* Skin Rashes (74 percent)
* Anemia (71 percent)
* Kidney Involvement (50 percent)
* Pain with deep breathing / pleurisy (45 percent)
* Butterfly-shaped rash on the cheeks and nose (42 percent)
* Sun or light sensitivity / photosensitivity (30 percent)
* Hair loss (27 percent)
* Abnormal blood clotting problems (20 percent)
* Raynaud's phenomenon (17 percent)
* Seizures (15 percent)
* Mouth or nose ulcers (12 percent)

It's time we find more effective treatments for this horrible disease, thank you for supporting the cause!

October is Lupus Awareness Month.

For the third row in a row my friend and fellow Lupie, :iconsophquest: and I, have held an
annual contest to increase awareness about this difficult disease.

The word Lupus is latin for wolf, which is said to attack like the wolf and give a person with the disease skin rashes that resemble the bite of a wolf.
Most people don't have any idea what it is or how debilitating, devastating and  life-threatening it can be.  I have been living with the disease since age 15, and I'm still fighting, every day.

I was told when first diagnosed that I would be lucky to live for another 10 years, but I've been going strong for 27!  I have found a way to cope and survive combining medications, natural therapies, and the love and support of friends and family, and just plain faith and stubborness.  You can learn more about Lupus at the Lupus Foundation website www.lupus.org/webmodules/webar…

DEADLINE

October 1st -  November 15th.

ENTRIES

I recorded a Schubert lieder, "Nacht und Traume" or "Night and Dreams" as an experiment with jazz musicians Willie Pickens on piano and Von Freeman on sax, several years ago. It's been collecting dust "in the can" so I decided to add it to this beautiful slideshow of dream-themed Pre-Raphaelite and Symbolist artworks.  You can enjoy it here-

My new record has been in production for several months, and is completely recorded, with the exception of some dubbing and tweaking here and there, but I am almost out of funds which we still need for mixing, printing, and promotion.  I need donations of around $5,000, so please help, and become a part of my new album in in exchange for some wonderful gifts and services. I just wanted to say a few words in respect to the wonderful and generous stock artists that we have here at dA.

Please support them! They are often the backbone of our community and our artwork. Stock art is the inspiration for many digital artists and photomanipulators here, and their work is just as much a part of our creations than the work we do ourselves. dA would not be as valuable a community without them, so if a Model stock artist needs help paying for costumes, don't criticize him/her. Most of them allow us to use their stock for free, and it takes alot of work and investment to create good stock that inspires the rest of us to work with. Many of them allow us to use their beautiful work commercially, Lockstock and Mizz-D Stock just to name a few.   There are many stock artists that spend lots of money on costumes and props so that we can have beautiful, creative images to become inspired by.

Not everyone is made of money, and there have been some evil, hateful comments on dA lately about stockers asking for donations for costumes and props. I know several stockers who are creative, clever and very talented models who for whatever reason don't have the finances to buy expensive gowns or outfits and props, and I am very happy to donate money or do what I can to help them get what they need to continue to provide dA members with the highest quality stock.

Finances are tough now for everyone, and some folks don't have a trust fund or can't work 3 jobs to pay rent and keep their families going, so buying expensive props and costumes is a luxury. You can't judge another person until you've been in their shoes. If you like using excellent stock, then please support your favourite stockers if they ask, and if you can.  Afterall, we are a community and we have to keep each other going.

Wouldn't you rather invest in the original work of creative musicians who actually conceive the art, than support superficial mega-corporations?   The time has come when we need to support independent musicians, and not the Corporate Big Brother's of the music industry, or of any industries for that matter.   Fight Big Box, pre-programmed, mediocre music and support indie artists like Me.  I realize that times are tough right now for everyone, and as a musician and artist working in Chicago I am still trying to produce new, authentic jazz..  Thank You in advance for any help you may be able to provide...

Listen to excerpts from my new CD, and become a part of My Music

This time I want to do it on my own.  No label, indie all the way.  Armed with some wonderful new arrangements, I have lined up Chicago's best musicians and guest artists, including Willie Pickens, Paulinho Garcia, Art Davis, Jim Gailloreto, and Neal Alger, to name a few.
